MU Online Season 3 Guide

Summoner and Master Level · 2007 – 2008

Online

Season 3 is where level 400 stopped being the end. Master Level replaced ordinary levelling with a point-driven skill tree, the Summoner arrived from her sheltered home of Elbeland with two contracted beasts and a book of curses, and the 3.0+ patch that followed widened the trees, added two more curses, the Wings of Dimension and the Swamp of Tranquility.

Master Level

Under the old system 400 was the ceiling: a character who hit 400 and finished the 3rd class change could not grow at all. Master Level is the answer — a second growth track that runs on its own experience bar and its own points.

The Summoner

The Summoner, the new Mu Online Season 3 class
The Summoner — the first new female character after the Elf.

The Summoner is a ranged magic class who fights with curses and summoned beasts: she cuts the enemy's firepower down while raising her party's. Her people are a closed, insular race with a noble bloodline and a natural gift for sorcery; they can reach into other dimensions through the Book of the Other Realm to summon and command mythical beasts, and their honed Third Eye reads an enemy's weakness at a glance.

StyleHow she plays
SoloShorter range than a Dark Wizard's area skills, but curses make hunting fast. She burns more mana than a wizard, so mana management matters
PartyDebuffs drop the enemy's stats; an Energy Elf plus a Summoner in the same party is the maximum-firepower setup

Summoner pets and skills

Sahamutt and Neil, the Summoner's contracted beasts in Mu Online
Two spirits from another dimension, summoned through their books.

A pet is summoned by equipping the Book of the Other Realm that holds its contract.

BeastWho it is
SahamuttLeader of the Mute tribe of Lanayru, protecting his pack with speed and sharp teeth. Usually peaceful, he turns into a ferocious warrior when his clan is threatened — they call him the Night Hunter
NeilA sacred beast of the religion of Tenes, serving the goddess Tenes and taking the form of a woman. Usually gentle and respected, but merciless towards men who worship Akum
Explosion and Requiem, the Summoner's pet skills in Mu Online Season 3
Each beast brings its own skill.
Pet skillWhat it does
ExplosionSahamutt charges the enemy in a suicide attack, leaving it burning and losing HP continuously
RequiemNeil attacks with a sharp blade, opening a large wound that bleeds for continuous damage
The Summoner's exclusive skills in Mu Online Season 3
Life Drain, Chain Lightning, and the Damage Reflection and Sleep effects.
SkillTypeWhat it does
Life DrainAttackSteals the enemy's health to refill your own
Chain LightningAttackFires 3 lightning strikes. With no other targets nearby, all 3 hit the same enemy
Damage ReflectionBuffApplied to yourself or another player. Its strength scales with the Summoner's Energy
SleepCursePuts one enemy to sleep until it is attacked

She also shares Fireball, Power Wave, Meteor and Ice with the Dark Wizard.

Summoner gear

The Summoner's sticks and books in Mu Online Season 3
Four sticks for the right hand, two books for the left.
ItemLore
Mystery StickCut from the Camillus, the tree called the divine tree. Used mainly for exorcism and warding, it carries an ancient spell left in the wood by 'Semerun' that doubles its effect
Violent Wind StickA spirit stone, the Heaven's Eye, is set dead centre. The wind sleeping in it raises a gale every time the stick is swung
Red Wing StickShaped after the phoenix, the symbol of an immortal soul. The fire in it makes the stick dangerous — control the magic badly and it can reduce you to ashes
Ancient StickFavoured by the ancient spirit-handlers who stood between gods and demons before the MU continent existed. Marked with patterns nobody can decipher
Book of SahamuttLeft hand. A book of the other realm holding the contract spell of the flame beast Sahamutt
Book of NeilLeft hand. A book of the other realm holding the contract spell of Neil, the holy maiden of blood
The three Summoner armour sets in Mu Online Season 3
Violent Wind, Red Wing and Ancient.
SetLore
Violent WindArmour holding the breath of the wind, worked with the high-spirit gemstone Heaven's Eye. It lightens the body and forms a windbreak that lets attacks slide off
Red WingMade mainly from phoenix feathers, the symbol of immortality. It carries both magic and spirit power, and failing to control the two at once lets Red Wing's heat devour you
AncientArmour inscribed with ancient spells, a legacy of the people who lived before the MU continent. The patterns amplify magic enormously and the spell protects the wearer's body
The Summoner's wings and quest item in Mu Online Season 3
Wing of Misery, Wing of Despair, and the Eye of the Abyss quest item.
WingsRequired levelDefenceDamage increaseDamage absorb
Wing of Misery180 + (wing level × 4)10 + (wing level × 3)12 + (wing level × 2)12 + (wing level × 2)
Wing of Despair215 + (wing level × 5)30 + (wing level × 2)32 + (wing level × 1)25 + (wing level × 2)

Both cost 1 HP per successful attack — the Summoner pays for her wings in blood. Her ordinary gear is the shared low-tier list: Kris, Short Sword, Rapier, Small Axe, Hand Axe, Fairy Axe and Skull Staff. The Eye of the Abyss is used in the second quest of her 1st class change.

Elbeland

Elbeland, the Summoner's home town added in Mu Online Season 3
Elbeland — concept art and the finished map.

Elbeland is where the Summoner's race went after abandoning their old home to escape the watch of Kundun and Lemuria. A powerful protective barrier wraps the whole region for the safety of the race, and it is the first place a newly created Summoner sees.

Two area curses — and curses do not stack.

InnervationDrops the defence of every enemy in range for a set time

Both are curses, so their success chance moves with the additional curse power on the equipped Book of the Other Realm — and applying one to a target that already carries a curse removes the old one.

The Swamp of Tranquility

The Swamp of Tranquility safe zone added in Mu Online Season 3 Plus

The Sapi are man-eaters in the shape of beautiful women: Sapi-unus lures prey with a sweet scent across a one-kilometre radius, Sapi-duo is its grown form with a sweeter scent and a wider reach, and Sapi-tress is the cruellest of them — the spines on its arms evolved to stop prey escaping, and it sings while it hunts. The Shadows are masses formed from the pent-up thoughts of dead pirates, with Shadow Pawn the lowest, Shadow Knight its ice-attacking evolution and Shadow Look above that. The Napin are fallen tree spirits who will hurt anyone to protect the swamp; Ghost Napin has had its will stolen by spirits, and Blaze Napin leads the corrupted ones.

Season 3.0+ also tidied the HUD and added a couple of shortcuts that stuck around for good.
